Q1: Does it have auto ignition or do I need to use a lighter to start it?
A: It has an auto ignition which works well. No lighter needed.
Q2: Does the pot lock on like a jet boil?
A: The pot is designed with a fixed lock handle. Lockable and stable handle with smart steel lock, easy to hold the pot even it fills of water.
Q3: Does any brand of canister work with this item or does it have to be a specific brand?
A: The base is set to hold two sizes of canisters. I was able to use coleman, but I found that "Gas One" also worked. I think if it is comparable to coleman, it should work.
However, only the small ones will fit into the pot when packed up.
Q4: Can i simmer with this? so i can cook eggs and meat and not burn it.
A: Absolutely! There's a bit of a learning curve and the environment (wind/cold/heat) can certainly play a factor in the rate at which the stove burns. It's also important to not treat this like you would cooking at home. There is no set it and forget it burn rate and they want to burn hot, especially with the small size circumference of the pot. Practice a few times and you'll be a camp chef in no time!
Q5: What is the difference between this stove and the Fixed Star 3?
A: Size and weight. X2 is for 2, the X3 is more of a solo set up.
X2 is for 2-3 people 1L
X3 is for 1-2 people 0.8L
Q6: What canister fits best inside the pot? I have a 220g coleman fuel canister that is too wide and won't fit.
A: 110g/3.9oz can will fit. Put base in first with burner down. Then canister support and then small gas can nozzle up.
Q7: What brand and size canister will fit inside this system, and is this system compatible with propane tanks if an adapter is used?
A: So far as I know, for the most poplar brand canisters in the USA, only Coleman canister doesn't fit well(It's a little bit wider than the standard ones). This stove system is compatible with propane tanks if use with an adapter but normally we don't recommend so. Butane-propane mixture cartridge that complying with EN417 is the best choice.
Q8: What is the material of the interior pot specifically?
A: It's made of hard anodized aluminum alloy.
Q9: Does this work with just isobutane canisters or will it work with propane also?
A: It works with propane canister, (eg. 1lb. propane canister) Pls remember to use with our Z1 LPG adapter to fit for the different thread.
Q10: Does this pour water neatly or is it messy?
A: It pours pretty neatly. No messes when making coffee or tea
Q11: Can i take the cook set on a plane? Or is it just the cannister i cant take?
A: Yes, although you’ll have to leave your fuel at home. While the FAA allows you to travel with your camping stove (“Camp stoves can travel as carry-on or checked luggage only if empty of all fuel and cleaned such that vapors and residue are absent. Simply emptying the fuel container is insufficient as flammable vapors remain. TSA recommends you ship these ahead of time as they are frequently confiscated due to fuel vapors”), Federal law prohibits airlines from taking compressed gas cylinders on board. Please check our Jetboil Dealer Locator for a list of retailers near your destination. As always, when in doubt, please check with the specific airline you are traveling with for complete rules and guidelines.
* Please note that Hawaiian Airlines does not allow stoves of any kind, used or new, to be checked or carried on. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any additional questions you may have.
