5 Stars for Petrel G2 Ultralight Pot

Superlight, extremely well made, and beautiful design. Plus, it works exceptionally well... a must buy!

You know in all seriousness, and after 41 years of experience as a Search and Rescue Ranger, I think I've seen or used everything under the sun and far as backpacking stoves are concerned. And without trying to sound dramatic, this pot in combination with a Soto Windmaster stove and the three prong pot support, may very well be the best Kit for all but Mountaineering when very large amounts of snow must be melted. For I would say 95/98 percent of the rest of us. This pot with the neoprene sleeve is absolutely spot on. Lite, large enough without over doing it, great lid, a pour spout that actually works, no drips, and the best feature I think is the heat exchanger, I was somewhat skeptical of those at first, gimmick I wondered, but nope it's a real thing the actually increases the performance noticeably. All in all, if you asked me, I would say absolutely purchase this.

The BEST! 👌

Simply the G.O.A.T. of backpacking cook pots! Perfect fit with a MSR pocket rocket deluxe, Soto Windmaster, or Fire Maple Green Peak II stove.

Ultralight Efficiency

Where to begin -

This is by far one of the best changes I have made to my ultralight setup. My last non-heat exchanger pot was sturdy but heavy, and cheap but inefficient. I went from 7 minutes and 10 grams of fuel to boil 500ml of water, down to 1:20 to boil the same with 4 grams of fuel.

I paired this pot with a SOTO Windmaster with Triflex, and it seems to me to be the perfect setup. The G2 pot fits a full canister and my stove inside, making a clean and small package to carry. The lid is snug, and heat exchanger solidly built. I can literally carry less than half of a 230g canister for an entire weeklong trip and still have fuel left over. Simply amazing! All my hiking buddies are jealous and purchasing their own gear from FireMaple. Plus, my coffee is always ready first!

The pot is just the right size for my (somewhat large) homemade dehydrated backpacking meals (I eat upwards of 4,000 kcal per day while in the backcountry), and actually can fit an entire liter of water instead of the 750 ml they advertise. You just have to be careful.

I went with no sleeve for my G2 pot to save weight, and I manage pretty well. For those who aren't gram hawks, I'd recommend the sleeve to make your experience more comfortable.

If I had to design my own pot from scratch, I literally couldn't have made it any better than the G2 for what I need, except maybe construct it from titanium. FireMaple absolutely knocked it out of the park for Ultralight backpackers who aren't the cold-soak-your-asparagus-stew (Eww!) type. You won't regret it.

Fabulous

Petrel G2 750ml Pot is fabulous to cook with. Well built snd sturdy. The heat exchanger works very efficiently and cuts down on fuel use. Exceptionally light and highly resistant to dents. Cleans up easily. Glad I purchased over other manufacturers models. I own the G3, Lunch Box and lantern. All high quality.

Petrel G2 w/sleeve and GreenPeak Stove

I’ve had this system for four months and could not be happier. It boils water. I’ve been using different systems in the bush for work and pleasure for 40 years. It’s well made, light weight, holds the stove and fuel canister plus. I have not used it above 7000’ yet but at that altitude it easily handled all cooking/water boiling for two, for three days, on well less than half a small canister.
Overall outstanding value and performance.

Works fine with the BRS 3000t stove

I'm surprised nobody has pointed this out yet, but this pot nests perfectly with the little BRS 3000t stove that's so popular with through-hikers. The pot supports on that stove *do* fold out at that weird angle, but the arms all fit perfectly inside the inner ring of the heat exchanger on the underside of the pot. It's a perfect, very secure fit. Also, if that's the stove you're using, you can fit a 230g cannister, the BRS 3000t stove, a fold-out pot support, microfiber cleanup cloth, and a lighter all inside the pot with the lid clamped down. Easy-peasy
