Amazing light and compact but with plenty of serious oomph… a truly heavyweight in the ultra light stove category. Highly recommended

The stove is very light and burns hot. I like the the remote connection to the fuel canister. My one complaint is that the legs are designed such that they can spread apart farther than the slots on the Petrel pots so it can be difficult to take the pot off and put it back on the legs without risking burning yourself by moving the legs while lowering the pot. Detents on the ring to stop the legs in just the right spot would have been a nice addition. Despite that one flaw I still recommend the stove. It heats up just as fast as my Jetboil, but is significantly lighter.

Other remote stoves, while prized for their stability, ease of use, and large-format cooking ability, have one thing in common. In an ultralight backpacker's world, they weigh about like a cinder block in a small 30 liter pack. For a long time, I have desired to make the switch to a remote stove setup, only to be deterred by the weight, and the hefty price tag (usually $100 or more). No more!

This stove check the boxes. Lightweight, efficient, and PACKABLE! Pairs well with one of my G2 pots, and can fit INSIDE the pot, WITH a full size fuel canister for long treks. Although, it's so efficient, you won't even need a full size canister unless you're cooking more than three times a day, for over a week.

Few areas for improvement - if a new version is made. The flame is not at all wind-resistant. I was able to blow it out from 6 feet away in my garage, using only my breath. Granted, a windscreen is provided, but with a flame so fragile, it'd be nice to see some improvement in that area. Second, the flame is situated a little further from the bottom of the pot than necessary. I use a SOTO Windmaster with Triflex on my G2 pot, and the flame sits so close to the bottom of the pot that practically no heat escapes out the sides or bottom. This remote stove is much further away - though I haven't noticed it make a huge difference in the efficiency or boil times.

Bottom line: If FireMaple can get this stove executed perfectly with small adjustments, they are set up to capture a market niche that has long frustrated backpackers, and establish this stove as a pioneer in it's class - becoming the new standard by which all others are judged.
