Can I pitch the rainfly first?

Yes, when using the matching footprint. Set up the footprint and pole structure, attach the rainfly, then clip the inner tent underneath.

Will the inner tent stay completely dry during setup?

The fly-first method helps keep the inner tent covered, but it cannot guarantee that no water will enter during strong wind, prolonged rain, or incorrect pitching.

Can it handle heavy rain?

The rainfly uses a PU3000 coating and taped seams, but weather performance also depends on staking, guy-line tension, site drainage, wind direction, seam condition, and fly-to-inner separation. No tent should be presented as guaranteed for every heavy-rain condition.
