Can I place this insert directly over a stove flame?

No. This is an insert pot designed to sit inside the Petrel G3 or Quickboil cooking system with water underneath.

Why use a rice insert instead of cooking rice directly in the pot?

It helps prevent burnt bottoms and uneven rice by separating the rice from direct flame heat.

Is this a real pressure cooker?

Not exactly. The sealing ring and clasp help trap steam inside for gentler, more even cooking, but it is not a high-pressure cooker.

How much rice can it cook?

It holds up to about 4.9 oz (140g) of dry rice, suitable for solo meals or small two-person portions.

Can I cook anything besides rice?

Yes. It also works for steaming eggs, reheating food, and simple steam-based camp cooking.

Will this rice cooker insert fit my Star X2/X3 or Petrel G2?

No. The current Micro-pressure Rice Cooker Insert is exclusively designed to integrate with the Petrel G3 Pot and the Petrel Quickboil Pro System.
It is not compatible with other FireMaple cooking systems.
