Is it just a container?

No, it is functional backcountry cookware (often called a "Mess Tin"). Made of food-grade aluminum alloy, you can place it directly on a camping gas stove or hot coals to boil water, cook ramen, or steam rice.

What is the metal rack inside for?

It is for steaming. You can pour a small amount of water in the bottom and steam dumplings, vegetables, or buns on the rack—a huge "comfort food" advantage over standard camping pots.

Is it non-stick?

No. It is hard-anodized aluminum, not Teflon. If you fry eggs or cook rice directly on the bare metal, it will stick. We highly recommend using cooking oil or lining the bottom with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Is it leakproof?

No. The lid is a metal-on-metal friction fit without rubber gaskets. It is great for storing dry goods, trail mix, or your cooking gear inside your backpack, but it is NOT sealed for liquids. Do not put soup or leftover liquid meals in it and pack it in your bag, as it will leak if tipped over.
