It is a super solid little stove. It’s lightweight, easy to pack, and the built-in igniter makes starting it almost effortless. What i like most is how steady the flame stays, even when it’s cold or windy — it just works. It’s not the most powerful burner out there, but for camping, hiking, or quick meals on the trail, it’s reliable, simple, and great for the price.

Very long delivery, 1.5 months. I thought it was lost already. The stove looks and works perfectly fine

Stove was working except for the thread that was really hard to align and get it screwed on the gas canister (companion). Not sure if its just a one off but hopefully not. Regulator was also hard to turn and adjust.

I am a little bit disappointed by the green peak 2 because i was outdoors and wanted to try it out. However, the piezo ignition was not working so i had to use a lighter to get a flame. I think the piezo ignition was not working because of a crack in the white column (see picture). If the piezo ignition would work, than the green peak 2 would be awesome...

Almost as good as the Soto Micro Regulator

The GP 2 takes about 24 seconds longer to boil 500ml of water using the Petrel G3 than the SOTO Micro Regulator. They're roughly the same size. I measured the lengths of the GP2 to be 77mm (folded) x 88mm (extended). The SOTO is 80.5mm (folded) x 88mm (extended). FireMaple quotes the folded length of the GP 2 to be 72mm. I don't know how they got that measurement. They either did not include the micro windscreen or the bit that screws into the gas bottle with the O-ring. The height for the Petrel when mounted to the GP 2 measured 268mm to the lip (i.e. not including the lid). I modified the channels at the base of the Petrel to accommodate the SOTO which resulted in the Petrel's lip height of 263mm. Although their dimensions are very close, the flame of the SOTO is closer to the base of the Petrel due to the domed/convex design of its head. I chose the SOTO MR over the Windmaster because its head design produced a broader flame compared to the Windmaster's more concentrated flame. Plus I wanted integrated pot stands and not a separate piece.

The GP 2 feels like a quality burner but it is a smidge behind the SOTO in every department but there's not much in it. The flame control of the SOTO is a tad better and it is more powerful which accounts for the faster boil times along with the flame sitting closer to the base.

The GP 2 is a tad heavier than the SOTO with my example weighing in at 95.6g compared to the SOTO at 70.9g. That's approx 25grams heavier, but the GP 2 has a lighter pouch so it claws back some of the deficit if one was to use their respective pouches to store the burners within the Petrel. However, this does not apply to me as I use a hanky as it provides better protection to the burner as well as to the inside of the pot. And it can do double duty as a rag to dry the pot or whatever. The whole kit (G3 Petrel w/lid + Jetboil cannister stand + 1/2 full fuel cannister + stove + hanky) came to 466.7grams for the FM GP 2 compared to 442 grams for the SOTO MR.

There are only 2 areas where in my opinion the GP 2 is better than the SOTO. The first being the pot supports. The GP 2's arms are easier to deploy and extend out further providing better support for larger pots and pans. The tiny swivelling "winglets" also accommodates smaller pots better than the SOTO.

The 2nd area the GP 2 beats the SOTO is value for money. IMHO, the GP2 is about 90% the performance of the SOTO at about 40% of the cost. Saying that, I still prefer the SOTO because of it's 1) convex flame profile (the Petrel's heat exchanger acts like a windscreen in my experience); 2) lighter weight; 3) better regulator (more precise flame control for simmering); 4) more powerful ; and 5) great reputation of its Piezo ignition system. YMMV.

Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review for our GreenPeak II Gas Stove. We appreciate your feedback and are glad to hear that it is almost as good as the Soto Micro Regulator.

We apologize for the discrepancy in dimensions and will make sure to update our product information. We're also happy to hear that you were able to modify the channels to accommodate the Soto MR.

Thank you for choosing our product and we hope it continues to serve you well on your adventures.

Happy camping!

Best regards,

Works great, easy to set up.

Feels super well made. Folds down to a great small size. paired with Firemaples G2 or G3 pot this thing boils water fast and efficiently. Has great wind protection and provides plenty of support for your pot.

WOW, buy this thing! LOL

All, this stove is awesome! I have been an avid backpacker and hunter my whole life. I have owned and tried everything fro Colemans to MSRs, to JetBoils and etc. This size and price point of this stove and the G3 ultralight pot which I also reviewed is amazing! Especially compared to other brands and their price points and sizes. Being an off brand I was nervous, but I was looking for a ultra small pot to put in my pack for day hunting trips figuring if for some reason the stove didn't work, oh well I was only out one meal. Well after using it for the hunting season, I think this may replace my backpacking name brand stove for two or three night hikes! The size is amazingly small. The durability on point and with the previously mentioned pot with a small gas canister it all fits into one awesome package. After meeting a couple of my base camp partners int he woods and making them food, they now want one also. Well, I like this product so much that I bought to more stoves and pots to give them for holiday presents! I will try to take pictures the next time I am out with the kit and will update this review if for some reason the stove lets me down in the field; however, I used this for about 20 days this year without issues! BTW for reference I used this stove at around the 5,000 ft elevation level all the way down to sea level.

Great addition for cooking flexibility

Lightweight and easy attachment to cook with pans. Have been able to use many types of pan over the fire maple base and have made biscuits and gravy amongst many other meals. Heat distribution is great and although I haven’t tested burn rate it seems to not be an excessive amount of fuel loss. Flame control is intuitive and easy, although I will say it’s much easier to crank this up rather than bring it down to a tiny flame, however that is just the nature of these types of cooking appliances.Seems durable and well built, the folding action seems sound and allows it to pack down nicely. When a heavy pan sits on top, it doesn’t give much at all, and doesn’t feel overloaded and sturdy especially with a propane canister base on. When it’s windy bring some tin foil to set up yourself a proper wind screen because it’s pretty susceptible to wind, although I never lost my flame or was unable to cook even when the wind was gusting 15+ MPH

Boiled quickly and didn’t eat up all my gas

Love it!

Using this with the Petrel 600ml and the neoprene sleeve. Boils water fast at a low setting on the stove--and at altitude. I've used this mostly above 7,000 feet and just the other day at nearly 12,000 feet at Lake Katherine in the Pecos Wilderness of New Mexico. I've been surprised how fast my water boils every time.

Super handy stove you can trust

Overlooked packing it in my tent on a rainy night and it nonetheless fired up on the first click of the piezo ignition the morning after.

FireMaple

No, it’s not compatible with the G3 pot. If you're looking for a pressure-regulated stove that works with the G3, we recommend the Greenpeak Pro.

Is the Greenpeak 2 stove compatible with the Petrel G3 Pot? I've seen commentary that says both "Yes" and "No".

FireMaple

No, cause the folding pot supports on the Greenpeak 2 are slightly too thick to fit into the locking slots on the G3 heat exchanger.

A
Albert

Hi! Can you tell me - does this stove (Green Peak 2) have normal compatibility with fire-maple G3 Petrel pot (600 ml)?
Many thanks in advance!
Albert

FireMaple

Hi! At the moment, the Green Peak 2 stove is not compatible with the G3 Petrel pot (600ml), as the folding arms of the stove are slightly too large to fit into the pot’s locking grooves.

However, we're currently working on an updated version of the Green Peak 2 with improved pot support design—stay tuned!

With this stove can I use a larged pan/pot to cook pasta or such in. I have the petrel 750ml already

FireMaple

Yes, you can use a larger pan or pot for cooking, but for better stability, we recommend our new Oar Stove Stand! It’s designed to elevate an integrated stove while allowing you to use larger cookware more securely. Perfect for cooking pasta and more! 😊

F
Filipp

Does the stove fit in the G2 pot with the gas canister inside?

FireMaple

Yes! By placing the 230g gas canister upside down, you can fit both the canister and a stove (Greenpeak I/II, Hornet II, or Torch) inside the G2 pot. 😊
